Dharmendra Verma, MD completed his residency training in Internal medicine at University of Texas, Houston along with MD Anderson Cancer Center, where subsequently, he received subspecialty fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
Dharmendra Verma, MD completed his residency training in Internal medicine at the University of Texas, Houston along with MD Anderson Cancer Center, where subsequently, he received subspecialty fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. He also received advanced training in Hepatology for the management of chronic liver conditions. He is board-certified in Hepatology and Gastroenterology. Dr. Verma enjoys the art of medicine and is uniquely able to bond with his patients to positively affect their health outcomes. His interest includes evidence-based management of digestive disorders and participation in collaborative research to expand the knowledge base for treating such conditions. He is active in bringing cutting edge care to the crossroads area in partnership with major academic centers in Houston and San Antonio. He has published numerous research studies in peer-reviewed journals and collaborating with other investigators to enhance our understanding of a multitude of digestive disorders. His patients and colleagues realize this and, as such, his patient referral base is largely “word of mouth”, referrals from patient’s families and friends, professional colleagues, and health insurance companies. Along with his wife and son, he enjoys being a part of the vibrant crossroads community and a productive member of the local medical community.
Richard LaCamera, M.D.
Dr. LaCamera began his education in Florida, earning his Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida in 1987. After attending medical school in 1991, he then went on to complete his internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama Birmingham in 1994.

Finally, after completion of a GI fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1997, he made his home at a private practice gastroenterology group in Palm Harbor Florida, and has been there for the last 24 years. As Dr. LaCamera and his family relocate to the South Texas area; he will begin treating patients in early 2022.
Jordan Shapiro, MD
Dr. Jordan Shapiro is a board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He specializes in the care of patients with chronic gastrointestinal disorders; focusing on improving transition from pediatric to adult care. His clinical interests include disorders of the brain-gut interaction, pelvic floor disorders, and eating disorders.
Dr. Shapiro is a proud alumnus of the Medical College of Wisconsin, it was there he received his Medical Doctorate. Dr. Shapiro then completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in 2014 at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital through the University of Cincinnati. In 2016, he enrolled in a Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas which included a T-32 research track. While fulfilling his fellowship, he also received his Master’s Degree of Science and completed a Health Services Research Fellowship concurrently through the Baylor College of Medicine.
In 2022, Dr. Shapiro made the transition to private practice to focus on patient care.
Katelin McVey
PA-C
Katelin McVey, PA-C, joined Gastro Health & Nutrition-Katy in 2015. Her education background consists of a MPAS from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Allied Health Sciences in Midland, TX. She completed her pre-requisites at Texas State University in San Marcos with her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from The University of Texas in Austin, TX.
McVey previously worked at Vitalogy Skincare in San Marcos, TX preparing specimens and assisting in surgeries. She also worked as the Wellness Program Manager for Viridian Health Management performing biometric health screenings.
Katelin McVey, PA-C joined Victoria Gastroenterology in 2015. Education- MPAS from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Allied Health Sciences Midland, Texas. Pre-requisites for MPAS Program from the University of Houston Downtown Houston, Texas. Pre-requisites for MPAS Program from Texas State San Marcos, Texas. Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from The University of Texas at Austin, Texas. Previously worked at Vitalogy Skincare, San Marcos, TX preparing specimens and assisting in surgeries. Also as Wellness Program Manager for Viridian Health Management performing biometric health screenings. Coordinated and managed the onsite team and individual wellness programs composed of diet, exercise and goal setting. Research Experience- Exploring the role of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of antibiotic-associated diarrhea in an inpatient setting. When Ms. McVey sits with a patient she no longer sees them as a patient but as a family member. You will be in good hands when under the care of Ms. McVey.
Jo Lynn Martinez

Jo Lynn Martinez, LVN, is a second-generation nurse and has been with the team for ten years. She oversees the Gastro Health and Nutrition team in Victoria and Katy, TX. Jo Lynn has been actively involved in the medical community for 24 years.
Jo Lynn Martinez, LVN, is a second-generation nurse and has been with the team for ten years. She oversees the Gastro Health and Nutrition team in Victoria and Katy, TX. In her role, she ensures compliance with industry regulations along with handling the day to day operations of managing the offices. Jo Lynn has been actively involved in the medical community for 24 years. Jo Lynn started as a Medical Office Specialist and then transitioned into nursing for 23 years. She has worked for DeTar Hospital as a Nurse and Victoria College as an Instructor for the Medical Assistant Program. She enjoys volunteering at her church and is currently enrolled in Victoria College, working towards receiving her Bachelor in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources. Her devotion, dedication, and natural leadership skills have helped her lead a successful team. She values working with incredibly bright people who all have the common goal of providing a stellar patient experience by utilizing a team-oriented approach.

Jessica Helms, MSN, APRN, FNP-C joined Gastro Health & Nutrition in 2021 as a full-time Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Jessica Helms, MSN, APRN, FNP-C joined Gastro Health & Nutrition in 2021 as a full-time Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She is a long-standing member of the Victoria community. Education - Ms. Helms earned her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing at Victoria College in 2000, Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Houston-Victoria in 2008 followed by a Master of Science Degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at University of Texas at Arlington in 2018. Prior to joining the practice, Ms. Helms specialized in Hematology & Oncology since 2006 as an Oncology Certified Nurse and then as a Nurse Practitioner after earning her Master's Degree. Research & Publications - Ms. Helms has a strong background in plan of care development, health education, and has multiple peer-reviewed publications in infectious disease with a focus on local epidemiology. Ms. Helms also serves as the COVID-19 Operations Center Director for the University of Houston - Victoria. As part of the UHV COVID-19 Operations Center, she directs the COVID-19 preparedness and response for the UHV Community. Ms. Helms is dedicated to providing empathetic, comprehensive, and evidence-based care.
